All the different newspapers are given crazy stories. The Daily Mail came up with the believable report that Arsenal had made contact with Marseilles but not yet agreed a fee.

The Guardian upped the stakes, claiming that a bid had been lodged with Marseilles. The boys in The Telegraph newsroom were not going to be outdone and went as far as Nasri undergoing a medical and throwing in an element of doubt with the ‘news’ that the player had suffered from viral meningitis last year.
