Hleb & Ade To Decide Arshavin's Future
The future of Zenit St. Petersburg star Andrei Arshavin will depend on whether Emmanuel Adebayor and Aliaksandr Hleb are at Arsenal next season, according to his agent…
Arshavin has drawn a host of suitors after his stunning displays for Russia at EURO 2008, where he put in man-of-the-match performances against Sweden and the Netherlands.
The pint-sized playmaker has been courted most fervently by a trio of Europe’s biggest clubs, and his future could be decided by the various comings and goings.
Chelsea were expected to wrap up his signing this week after owner Roman Abramovich expressed his desire to increase the club’s Russian influence, but Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari opted for Deco instead.
Barcelona, in turn, were initially thought to be leading the chase after dumping the aforementioned Portuguese star, but no move has yet materialised despite the fact Arshavin is a long-time supporter of the Catalans.
Arsenal completes this curious transfer triangle, as Arsene Wenger has been quite vocal with both his admiration and criticism of the 27-year-old, which many believe is a deliberate tactic.
The Gunners could potentially lose both Hleb and Adebayor to Barca this summer, meaning the Blaugrana’s interest in Arshavin would dissipate and Wenger’s would increase significantly.
And the player’s agent, Dennis Lacheter, said: “The push for Andrei Arshavin has only just got going.
“The clubs who are following him are only just warming their engines.
