The strange things in football.......
Chelsea got Sidwell to run down his contract at Reading so they wouldn't have to pay a transfer fee. Whatever amount Reading could have got would sure help them get some dough to buy a replacement player.
Now, Chelsea have just sold Sidwell to Aston Villa for £5.5m. Assuming just his salary of 50,000 per week, 5.5 - (50,000x52)will have meant that chelsea made a profit of about £3 m.
In this whole circle, Arsenal and Reading were robbed of any benefit in making him the player he is today. (although not a great player yet)
I guess this is why club management is starting to put sell on clause in their youth players in order to protect their investment.
I hope Wenger got this all figured out as I think we are the clubs releasing most of the promising players to the other clubs. It will be an impressive source of income.
