Arsenal Ladies and England striker Kelly Smith was made an MBE for her services to women's football.



The 29-year-old, who lives in Hatfield, helped the Gunners win an unprecedented quadruple in 2006/07.

She also had a domestic double in the season just gone - scoring 15 goals in 25 games.

"It is an honour and very exciting," Kelly told Arsenal's club website arsenal.com.

"I am flabbergasted to be honest.

"I think I will be more nervous going to Buckingham Palace than I would be before a football game."
