Alex Song made his international debut for Cameroon as the Indomitable Lions kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 4-2 defeat against holders Egypt.
The Arsenal youngster replaced Stephane Mbia at half time, joining his uncle Rigobert on the pitch. Song's introduction improved Cameroon, who had trailed 3-0 at the break after Hosni Abd Rabou's early penalty and a double from Mohamed Zidan.
Samuel Eto'o's header reduced the deficit after 51 minutes but Abd Rabou's long-range strike ended Cameroon's hopes with eight minutes left. Eto'o converted a spot-kick in stoppage time but it was no more than a consolation. Cameroon face Zambia in their second group game on Saturday.
