West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has vowed his team will not just be there to make up the numbers as they prepare for their daunting return to the top flight.
Coca-Cola Championship title-winners Albion could hardly have been handed a tougher assignment on the opening day than a trip to the Emirates.
Albion are without striker Luke Moore, midfielder Robert Koren, central defender Neil Clement and right-back Gianni Zuiverloon.
Moore has a thigh problem, Koren is still not fit following a knee ligament injury, Clement also has a knee problem while Zuiverloon is on duty with Holland at the Olympics.
Central defender Abdoulaye Meite, who joined Albion from Bolton in a £3.5million deal last weekend, is set to make his debut in place of Clement.
Mowbray said: "You have to have a belief going to Arsenal that you can win. Otherwise, why bother turning up?
"We are ready, we have a game plan and we know what we are doing. We will respect Arsenal and we know it will be a tough game because we are the new boys and they are a top four side. But we will be looking to go there and make life as difficult as we can for them.
