Can Arsenal Win A Trophy Next Season?
Posted By Stuart on July 23rd, 2008

Arsene Wenger's team have suffered for the last three seasons without winning a single trophy but a former Arsenal striker thinks that Wenger's three year period without silverware will end next season.

The north London club have won nothing since lifting the F.A. Cup back in 2005 and are now hungry to get their hands on silverware. To make matters worse for the Gunners, their local rivals, Spurs, won the League Cup last season.

Barcelona's French striker, Thierry Henry, has been speaking to the Sun and had this to say about his former team "last year I said Arsenal would win something, people laughed at me. They laughed even more when they finished the season with nothing but how many people fell in love with their football?"

Henry makes a good point if you are a neutral of the game and love to just watch great football and has no qualms on the outcome of Arsenal matches. What if you are an Arsenal fan? Would you be content with just watching great football every week or would you settle for less attractive football on the pitch and have trophies at the end of the season?

Henry further added "At the start of the season everyone wrote them off. A couple of months in and everyone was saying, 'Wow, Arsenal play some great football'.

Let's be honest here Arsenal lost the Premiership title last season because they did not have the strength in depth within their squad. Chelsea and Manchester United had much larger squads than Arsenal last season and that proved to be the difference in winning the title and coming third.

Arsene Wenger must increase his squad in the next few weeks if he is going to challenge Manchester United or Chelsea next season. The Arsenal manager has seen experienced players such as Gilberto Silva, Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Jens Lehmann leave the club during the summer and bring in new signing, Samir Nasri and Aaron Ramsey.

The loss of Hleb and Flamini will be massive to Arsenal this season. Flamini was a work-horse figure in the Arsenal team and he will be hard to replace. Hleb in my opinion was one of the most under-rated players in the Premiership. He was instrumental for Arsenal in recent seasons and will be a great coup for Barcelona. Gilberto and Lehmann, although old, will still be missed by an ever increasingly youthful Arsenal team when they compete in Europe next season.

The new boys, Nasri and Ramsey, have bags of talent to offer this new-look youthful Arsenal team but with youth you get lack of experience and that will be Arsenal's downfall for another couple of seasons I'm afraid.

It is a transition period for Arsenal at the moment. Their fans are just going to have to put up with watching their team play awesome flowing football for a while.

It's still a long shot of talking about any cup yet.We havent seen how the 1st team plus new signings playing together yet.
I would like to see how they cope together & style of play before comment on winning any trophy.
Temporarily, we only hope for the best outcome of our team.
