Wenger has admitted his interest in Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, even though the Morocco international claims he has all but given up hope of joining the Gunners.
The 25-year-old has been persistently linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as a possible replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor and Wenger revealed he has been keeping tabs on the frontman and is still open to his move.
Chamakh, though, is no longer confident a move to Arsenal will materialise. "I don't really believe it much any more," he told L'Equipe
Hmm..... Another David Villa situation?
I say we buy him. Better than to miss the chance since we have the dough now...

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud was quoted as saying the Arsenal manager had contacted him and made an offer but, at the pre-Emirates Cup press conference, Wenger was not forthcoming.
“He is responsible for his statements,” said the 59-year-old.
“I wouldn’t like to commentate on any phone calls I made during the day because, at the moment, I have a hundred phone calls. The only thing I can say is that we are nowhere near to signing anybody at the moment.”
So still not sure if we are any closer to signing Chamakh or anyone....

Just heard news that we have made a 5 million pund offer but the Bordeaux president said that the offer was below there valuation for him I think they were holding out for 7 million so we shall see.

interesting read, I think Wenger will go up to 7 maybe 9million tops for Chmakh but I think that will be the most he will rise it to as he has other postions int he sqaud that need more attention first.

7 mil is a goodd investment. Use the other 23 mil or so to buy a DM and/or CB.

Well, wenger stated quite many times that he's interested in Chamakh and on the other side Chamakh wants to come to Arsenal.
It's a good news but the bad news is we havent had any slightest idea that whether wenger will add another player in DM position.

Wenger is playing hardball with Bordeaux over striker Marouane Chamakh. The 25-year-old is desperate for a move to the Gunners but the French club have set his price too high according to the Arsenal boss.
He told L'Equipe: "In five months, if he doesn't prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won't get anything. In the current context, to me, it is over. Let's say that at the moment it is terminated.
"I like Chamakh, he is a forward that attracts me, but I already have (Theo) Walcott,
(Nicklas) Bendtner, (Robin) Van Persie, (Andriy) Arshavin and Eduardo. I am in no rush.
"My offer seems fair to me, taking the market into account. Chamakh would be good, but there are other options should we wish to pursue them
Le Boss sure knows a bargain.....
