So yet again the question comes up... Will Rangers and Celtic leave the SPL. Well as im sure you'll all be please to hear for once its not the EPL that's being discussed as a possible destination but a new Atlantic league involving the best clubs from around the smaller European leagues. With backing coming from the likes of Feyenoord, PSV and Anderlecht it would be a much more lucrative and competetive option than the SPL. However its yet to be known what UEFA think of the idea and I doubt very much they would give it the go ahead. With another major flaw being that every away game would be like an away fixture in Europe costing the fans a fortune. An exciting new league with great prospects or just another rubbished plan by clubs in smaller leagues desperate for the cash to compete in Europe?. For me I think this ever happening is a long way off.

Rangers and Celtic can't leave the SPL. They ARE the SPL, in my opinion.

I agree with GG. If the Scottish FC let Rangers and Celtic leave, then SPL will no longer exist.

Rangers and Celtic, on the other hand, may be selfish and want to impose themselves on the bigger stage to get a bigger fan base and also more $$ of course.......

Interesting idea though.

The only plus for Scottish football is it would be more competetive. In terms of popularity though the SPL would drop dramatically. The fact is though Rangers and Celtic have the base to build competetive european teams. I agree with coolman on one point the money is why we want to go but to get a bigger fanbase? Rangers and Celtic are world wide brands and the only club who can compete with us in Britain is Manchester United and perhaps Liverpool ... Fact. So we don't need to increase our fan base we just need the foundations to build the teams were capable of being. Its gong to be a long hard struggle to get this League up and running though.

I do not think this will come to fruition myself, all this talk of super leagues and now this, media hype, and for Rangers and Celtic to leave the Scottish Premiership would be a disaster, the smaller clubs in the SPL rely on the gate receipts generated from their matches with the top two clubs, smaller clubs would fold and befor long scottish football would seriously suffer.

I know both Rangers and Celtic are suffering a little bit with funds and being in a European league would be the answer to their prayers, but as an outsider looking in i think you big guys should stay where you are in SPL
