Jack Wilshere expects to be fit and ready for the next round of the Carling Cup - and he is backing the young Gunners to go all the way to Wembley.

The 17-year-old has become a mainstay of Arsène Wenger's team in that competition but, after helping Arsenal beat West Brom in the Third Round in September, he was forced to sit out the Fourth-Round victory over Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

An ankle injury sidelined Wilshere but he enjoyed his front-row view of a second impressive home win and is confident of playing - and winning - when Arsenal visit Manchester City in the Quarter-Finals on December 2. Indeed, the teenager believes he will get his hands on the Carling Cup this season.

"I picked up my injury in training but I should be back for the Manchester City game." Wilshere told Arsenal.com.

"It was frustrating to miss the Liverpool game but it was good to see players like Craig Eastmond come into the side and do well. If people are injured there are always youngsters who can step up and do a job.

"It will be good to play against Manchester City and I hope they play a full team. We will go there and believe we can win and hopefully we can.

"I think now we are into the last eight it is realistic for us to win the trophy. I think we can beat Manchester City and if we do then the competition will be wide open. We can go all the way

He's right if we beat city the competition is ours for the taking I hope he plays the kid is awesome. I hear RVP is pushing to be put in the starting lineup to play as well haha personally I'm just afraid as soon as he sees that tool Adebayor he's going to push him over and stomp him

I hope the Carling Cup is not our main target...
