There will be a minute's applause in the FA Cup Semi final between Arsenal and Chelsea before the kick off to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Interestingly there will be no commemoration at all at the other Semi. This was predetermined months ago, supposedly, and has nothing to do with the fact that Everton and Utd are in it.

A strange thing to replace the silence and stranger to do it in one semi-final only. However, it seems applauding is common in Italy (maybe Gooner Genoa can confirm this?).

Anyway, its a nice gesture to commemorate the tragedy by giving the due respect whichever way.

Not properly. In Italy, applauding has recently become a necessity to cover up the booing of some idiots during the minutes of silence.
