France and Italy. Italy and France. Two of the most proud and famous nations for soccer in recent times. Have they fallen on hard times?
Will Luca Toni and Thiery Henry prove their critics wrong? Or will Adrian Mutu sink the Italians while our very own, RVP sink the French?
France will head to their match with Holland unsure of their team and form. With one point salvaged from the match against Romania (which they were expected to beat), anything less than a win against the flying Dutchmen will be very bad for them. Holland, on the other hand, are on cloud 9 with their amazing 3-0 win over Italy. With the possibility of RVP ready to fly, the signs are not good for the French team.
Without the calming influence of Cannavaro at the back for the Italians, the World Champions were disgraceful in their defeat to Holland. Reports are declaring that the Italians at home are leaving the tomatoes out to rot so that they can be used to pelt the national team when they get back. And SOON, many papers wrote.....
But one familiar name may be there to rescue the Azzurri from the brink of death. None other then their favourite son of Alessandro Del Piero, who have been with the national team longer than ... longer than.. whoever i can remember....
Like Croatia, the Romanians will want to roll back the years to reminisce those of Georghe Hagi and Dan Petrescu. Like what Captain Chivu, "We want to prove that we are not a generation of losers as we have often been described." With Adrian Mutu firing on all cylinders, they will not be easy to stop.
My Prediction: France to draw 1-1 with Holland and Italy to beat Romania 2-1
