Wenger has declared that Gilberto will play for Arsenal at Sheffield United today. The Press had suggested the Brazilian midfielder former captain would not feature in the Carling Cup tie after refusing to play at centre half at Bramall Lane.

Wenger vehemently refuted such a ridiculous suggestion.

“I deny that categorically, and I find this assessment disrespectful to a great professional like Gilberto,” said the manager. “He is 100 per cent professional and is in the squad for tomorrow. He will play.

“I believe that as a manager and as a player you always have one thing in your mind and that is what is good for the club and the team. I cannot fault Gilberto on that since he arrived here.

“Recently he has played less, but his mentality has been superb. It is important to win every single competition and in this one I use younger players because traditionally it has always been like that. It has helped us a lot to develop the players.”

“You could see Justin Hoyte and Song,” he said. “Walcott maybe and Eduardo will play. We will need a strong squad up there.”

Although it is hard for a former World Cup winner to be sitting on the bench, I believe that Gilberto has always shown 100% sportmanship. He has always led the team with distinction and show 100% commitment onoff the pitch. We need him to be in our team. The season is long and his experience will come in handy.

In fact, I still believe when we reached the tail end of the season, Gilberto will be the man to help turn the tide in our favour and help us win titles and trophies.

Wenger started the match with a completely new team from the one against Liverpool. As expected, Gilberto, Walcott, Eduardo and Bendtner will all given a chance to prove their capability. Diarra also started, albeit as right back.

The only unexpected move was to give Fabianski the captaincy instead of Gilberto. What is it about Wenger on this issue? I really cannot understand. Luckily for us, Gilberto is a true professonal on and off the pitch. BUT if this goes on, He will surely leave. Even I cant take this.

On the pitch, the team did not break a sweat as we casually blew past United with the sweet passing style of ours. Well, at least that is good news for us as the back ups are good enough when the Africa cup is on and we lose Toure, Eboue, Ade and Sagna.
